Biblical Teachings
Through biblical teachings Christians learn to view marriage as a spiritual union between a man and a woman, a lifelong commitment that is holy and sacred (Mark 10:8-12). Due to the inevitable temptation for sexual immorality, each man should marry a woman whom he loves, and each woman a man whom she loves, and this act will be intimately and sacredly shared between the two for the rest of their lives (1 Corinthians 7:1-40). For a person who turns from their beloved and enters into a new marriage, whether it be because of divorce or being a widow(er), shall be marked as an adulterer and they shall have sinned (Ephesians 5:25-33). |
Biblical Verses (1 Corinthians 7:1-40) Now concerning the matters about which you wrote: “It is good for a man not to have sexual relations with a woman.” But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband. The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control. (Ephesians 5:25-33) Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. In the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, … (Mark 10:8-12) And the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.” And in the house the disciples asked him again about this matter. And he said to them, “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery against her, and if she divorces her husband and marries another, she commits adultery.” (Leviticus 21:13-15) And he shall take a wife in her virginity. A widow, or a divorced woman, or a woman who has been defiled, or a prostitute, these he shall not marry. But he shall take as his wife a virgin of his own people, that he may not profane his offspring among his people, for I am the Lord who sanctifies him.” here to edit. |
